ADD, Dyslexia, Reading/Spelling or Learning Skill Development
Head Injury and Cognitive Re-training

Need a rapid change, jump-start for learning or just too far away to come for regular center services? The intensives which are offered through the Learning Center, in Monterey, employ the best of EDU-Therapeutics techniques to provide learners with a clear understanding of their attributes and how to develop skills for success. There are several intensive programs available through our center:

1-3 Week Intensive Training Program

Special arrangements may be made for intensive programs for a client - be they child, adolescent, or adult.  The program begins with a thorough diagnostic attribute profiling.  These assessments identify the inefficiencies which are combining to make reading, spelling, attention or the dominant issue a challenge.   The assessment takes the first two to four hours of programming.

Based on the attribute profile, a diagnostic teaching program is designed by Dr. Joan Smith.  The materials, techniques, and implementation design is programmed and intervention begins.  In a one week intensive the emphasis is on program design and introduction.    In a longer series the intention is to actually initiate change in the learning  process.   During the longer series the parent, partner,  or teacher actually participates with the client during the last three days to learn the techniques, develop skill in presenting the program, and to prepare to provide support programming upon return home.

Intensives are often done for out of town, out of state, out of country clients.   They can be equally effective for local clients.   The importance of the intensive is in making change rapidly and permanently.

Cognitive Retraining - Head Injury or Stroke

Cognitive retraining is provided for children and adults who have had head-injury or brain-trauma from a stroke or illness. The recovery of skills in learning and processing information is readily accomplished through intensive programming. Individuals who reside outside of a center service area may come for an intensive training program. They are encouraged to bring a teacher or therapist with them, who can carry on programming when the intensive training has been completed.

While the learner is working with the consulting staff on establishing a program and training sequence, the therapist receives instruction which will enable him/her to continue with the program at the conclusion of the intensive. On-going contact and consultation with the consulting staff is maintained throughout the off-site training program. Checkup visits for reprogramming and accelerating training are scheduled periodically to assure steady progress.
